About: College Scholarships Available to 4-H Members

There are three ways 4-H members can earn one or more college scholarships. They can win a scholarship through competitive project events such as Livestock Expo’s, State 4-H Congress and 4-H Roundup.

A 4-H member may also apply for college scholarships. Recipients are selected based on their 4-H experiences and financial need. There are 27 college scholarships. However, some of these scholarships have very specific requirements. Applicants will need to read through the requirements carefully to see which ones they qualify for.

If you are applying for a college scholarship, please be aware of the following:

These regulations apply to all scholarships unless indicated otherwise under the specific scholarship.

  1. Scholarships are open to all Tennessee 4-H members regardless of previous awards won.
  2. Recipients must be an active Tennessee 4-H member.
  3. Applicants will complete an online Tennessee 4-H scholarship application form. The application form is available on the Tennessee 4-H Web site.
  4. The e-mail provided when registering to complete the scholarship application will be used to contact scholarship recipients with updates and for reminders to request scholarship payment. Make sure it is an e-mail checked frequently.
  5. Applications and required documents are due no later than March 1. This includes agent review and documents requested (ACT/SAT and transcripts.)
  6. Scholarships will be awarded on January 1 following the successful completion of one quarter or semester of college or schoolwork. Successful completion is defined as a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 grading system.
  7. Selection of the scholarship recipients (unless otherwise stipulated) will be made by a scholarship selection committee appointed by the Assistant Dean and Department Head of the 4-H/Agriculture Leadership, Education and Communication Department.
  8. The value of scholarships which are funded by an endowment will be determined annually according to the availability of funds.
  9. Recipients will be announced at State 4-H Roundup.
